TiVIE light data

Dataset

Description

This is the TiVIE light data to accompany TiVIE model v 1.0 produced by Maria-Theresia Walach, Lancaster University for the publication Walach, M.-T., and Grocott, A., 2025. Space Weather, doi: 10.1029/2024SW004139.
This dataset contains the time series data from the solar wind and geomagnetic activity (substorms and geomagnetic storms) that are used by the TiVIE light software to produce the plots.

In the publication by Walach and Grocott (2025, doi: 10.1029/2024SW004139) we present a statistical model of the ionospheric electric potential. The objective of the Time-Variable Ionospheric Electric potential (TiVIE) model is to better represent the ionospheric electric potential by using novel parameterisations that capture the major sources of time-variability of the coupled solar wind-magnetosphere-ionosphere system: interplanetary magnetic field strength, orientation and timescale of solar wind steadiness; and energy release during magnetospheric substorms; and progression through geomagnetic storms.
